This e-Portfolio represents the work I have completed in the Masters of Library Science program at San Jose State University, from my enrollment in Fall of 2008 to Spring 2011.

Throughout my enrollment in the SLIS program, I collected and saved all of my submissions for each class, including class discussions, exercises, papers and research notes, into separate folders labeled by class number. At the beginning of LIBR 289, I collected what I believed was my best work into new folders labeled by which core competency each submission addressed. Choosing the most appropriate work for each competency was a challenge. I initially found that many of the papers I had created fulfilled my interpretation of multiple competencies.

After further reflection on what I had done and learned from each class, and discussion with other students enrolled in LIBR 289, I was able to discern which competency was best represented by each submission. The feedback from other students throughout the process of creating my e-Portfolio was critical to my success. I also found that much of my work created in one class overlapped and supplemented work I submitted in other classes. This realization, as I near the conclusion of my SLIS coursework, I feel is representative of my experience in the program, where I learned the importance of collegial relationships with other information professionals, as well as the complexity of the many issues encountered in the profession.

My e-Portfolio is organized according to the Matrix of Core Competencies provided in Angel. For each of the competencies, I have provided a Statement of Competency that describes my interpretation of the competency, how my coursework demonstrates my mastery of each, how my knowledge and skills developed over the course my enrollment in the SLIS program and the many ways in which I can apply those skills in my future career. Also provided is the evidence, in the form of Adobe .pdfs and links to webpages I created, that I selected for each competency.

Creating this e-Portfolio was the culminating experience of my SLIS coursework and represents my evolution from a SLIS student into a knowledgeable information professional.
